It's a new dawn, It's a new day, It's a new life, for me, and I'm feeling good.

A song made famous by Nina Simone, recorded in 1965, which went largely unnoticed until it was used in a VW commercial in 1994. Since then the song has taken on a life of it’s own, with cou...

It is with much regret that the Trustees have accepted Gillian's resignation from the post of Allotments Manager.  Gillian has recently become a grandmother and wishes to spend more time with her grandaughter, plus pursuing her many interests.

We would like to thank Gil...

Our Summer Show is being held on Sunday, July 21st.  We need volunteers to help run the show, either Saturday afternoon erecting the marquees, or Sunday afternoon -  selling raffle tickets, helping on the gate, selling teas and coffee, or whatever.

We would also ap...

June 7, 2019

June is the month when my allotment mind turns to autumn and winter.  Gardeners work by the seasons – from January onwards I start to sow for the summer, and when the resulting plants are all finally planted out by the end of May, it moves on to the next season.  Then...

There’s a dentist who works in Eastbourne who swears he’s Elvis.  Well, I’m sure he knows that he isn’t Elvis, but he does play Elvis records all day long.  I suppose it does relieve the boredom of looking into peoples’ mouths all day long, and for his whole working li...

Unfortunately our Treasurer, David May, will not be seeking re-election at the upcoming AGM.  This therefore creates a vacancy.

We would very much appreciate that if anyone would consider volunteering for this role, you contact Gillian in the office, so we may more full...

I was thinking the other day of the large number of British Institutions we have in this country, far more, it seems to me than any other country.  Those that came to mind include within sport; the Lords test, FA Cup Final, Wimbledon, the Derby, and Grand National.  Ot...

Louise in the office has sent me a photo of a snail which she found on her plot.  Louise has named the snail Sam, an appropriate unisex name, as it’s difficult to know which sex snails are – I wouldn’t know where to start.  Sam is now nicely snug and happy with Louise...

An article in last Saturday's Guardian magazine.  Beware!

In a corner of London, close to the busy Edgware Road, there is a secret garden. Tucked away on a residential street, the gate has the words “Colindale Gardens and Allotments Association” messily painted on a whi...

In the latest issue of Grow Your Own magazine, there is an article submitted by the National Allotment Society, warning of the dangers of Councils taking over allotment sites.  The article says “type ‘save our allotment’ into any search engine and you’ll find a long li...

Community Plots

May 15, 2019

Each month we will be featuring one of the many community plots that are on our allotment sites. Please support these very worthy causes in any way that you can. This month it is "Edible Eastbourne"

Edible Eastbourne is a local Community gardening group that brings together community members of all ages from the Eastbourne area. They have been working since 2014 to raise awareness of the importance of locally sourced and grown food and encourage residents to grow their own.

They support more local and healthy produce growing in open and public spaces that enables residents to be involved in planting, growing and maintaining a garden. Find more information at www.edibleeastbourne.co.uk
