Wisley Flower Show & Gardens 2019

It rained as we left the Gorringe Road site but the forecast had promised fair weather at Wisley for the day and sure enough, as our coach approached the M25, the sun came out.  The gardens were beautiful with echinacea, rudbeckia, crocosmia and grasses all swaying the breeze.  In the orchard the apple and pear trees were laden with tempting fruit.  At the Glasshouse, amongst the tropical palms and orchids you can find RHS Garden Mars, complete with spaceman and domed grow tent!

The flower show itself was amazing with perfect dahlia blooms.  How the judges managed to choose a winner is beyond me!  The floral art marquee was very interesting.  The interpretations of the themes was certainly an eye-opener.  Perhaps this will inspire some exhibits for our own Summer Show next year.

A lovely day was had by all and we arrived home tired, clutching our purchases, and dreaming of dahlias.

Work has commenced on the Community Kitchen adjacent to the Durley Field site car park.

This facility is for the tenants of both Durley and Marchants Fields to use as a meeting place and social area.  An opportunity to get together for a community ‘cook-up’, BBQ, and events such as a pickle-making workshop.

The key for the cabin will be held in the allotment office.

Thank you for your support in our bid for Tesco funding which has helped turn our community kitchen plans into a reality.  All your Tesco ‘blue tokens’ helped as we were awarded £1000 for our project.

The initial plan was for a shelter, pizza oven, garden, benches and tables.  Now we’ve made a start with the construction more funding will be sought and, if it’s a success, we can roll out the idea to our other sites across the town.
