What to do in APRIL

Although TS Elliot may have said 'April is the cruellest month' days are getting longer and warmer which means more time for gardening! 

  • pinch out the tops of Sweet Peas to encourage bushier plants

  • plant chitted maincrop potatoes

  • prepare beds ready for planting

  • prune fig trees

  • feed raspberries, fruit trees and  fruit bushes with a slow-release fertiliser.  Try blood, fish and bone or pelleted chicken manure.

  • start to harvest asparagus spears as they come through
